Driving in winter poses challenges that any driver should be aware of and prepare for them earlier. The Winter season is known for reduced traction and slippery roads. This calls for installing tires that are well suited for these conditions. There are different types of tires that are ideal for the winter season.

Studded Winter Tires

These tires can be identified by a snowflake symbol on the side and have metal studs on the threads. They are designed for wet and heavy snow. It is recommended to have the studs on all four wheels for optimum control. Some states allow the studs to be used on the front wheel only.

Non-Studded Winter Tires

These types of tires are best suited for soft ice and hard-packed snow. The rubber compound keeps them supple even when the temperatures drop below freezing. Their strong tread design improves grip in the winter and on ice.
